As researchers an the frontiers of science continue to demonstrate, the division between brain and body is not as clearcut as we assumed. So how might we use our brains to improve our bodies? Or even, how might we better move our bodies to improve our brain? That is the unique approach of the Feldenkrais Method—improving movement to improve human function.
In this workshop, we will focus on the neck, shoulders and upper back. These areas of our bodies often suffer in our sedentary, technology-centered world—whether we’re carrying home a laptop or carrying around the weight of the world. We will use Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons to mind how we shoulder tension. Through gentle, playful movement, we adapt our flexible brains to change the neuromuscular habits that lead to chronic stress, pain, or muscular tension.
Beginners and experienced students are both welcome in this workshop.
About the Instructors:
Marion Harris: Marion, founder and director of the Feldenkrais® Centre in Toronto, is a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner®, a Certified Bones for Life® Trainer/Teacher and an authorized Sounder Sleep System® teacher.
One of the few practitioners to have trained directly with founder, Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, Marion is nationally recognized and respected in Feldenkrais Method instruction.
Combining her warm, dynamic presence with her three plus decades of teaching experience (including 12 years as a yoga instructor), Marion coaxes the best from her students–helping them reduce muscular stress, recognize and change damaging or inefficient movement habits, and increase strength, flexibility and vitality–both in body and mind.
Marion says continued practice and teaching of the Feldenkrais Method make her appreciate its genius, and deepens her commitment to make Feldenkrais accessible to everyone.
Aarti Rana: Aarti was introduced to the Feldenkrais Method after breaking her back in a serious tobogganing accident when she was a teenager. After experiencing first-hand its remarkable benefits in her own recovery, she became fascinated by the scientific and philosophical basis of Moshe’s Feldenkrais work.
After completing a 4 year professional Feldenkrais training program in San Francisco, Aarti graduated as a Guild certified Feldenkrais Practitioner. She has developed her teaching and FI practice in Toronto for the past few years and has chosen to continue to deepen and expand her knowledge by pursuing medicine and is currently completing her first year of Medical School at McMaster University.
