“As a fitness professional, I have attended numerous classes and workshops over my 20+ year career. When assessing their success for me personally, there are a number of qualities I look for in the teacher/presenter: professional, knowledgeable, well-prepared, welcoming, sense of humour, and an expressed belief in and enthusiasm for what they are doing. The Power of the Pelvis: Health and Strength
Date/Time
Date(s) - 17/09/2017
10:00 am-4:30 pm
Location
Ralph Thornton Centre
Whether you’re dancing to Elvis or sitting for work all day, the pelvis is an integral part of all our movements. Yet over time, most of us lose mobility and strength in this part of our body due to tension, inactivity, or poor movement habits.
In this workshop Dr. Aarti Rana will teach simple Feldenkrais lessons that integrate movements of the pelvis with the hips and spine to decrease muscular tension, increase flexibility, and find grace in everyday movements including sitting, walking, swimming—and especially dancing to Elvis.
About the Instructor:
Aarti Rana, M.D., is a Feldenkrais practitioner as well as a medical
resident in the University of Toronto’s psychiatry program. She
experienced first-hand the remarkable benefits of Moshe Feldenkrais’s
teachings after she broke her back in an accident as a teenager and
used the Feldenkrais Method for rehabilitation. She completed her
training in 2012 from the Institute for Studies in Somatic Education
in San Francisco.
Her research and clinical interests include chronic pain, functional
neurological disorders, narrative medicine, and the teaching of the
arts and social sciences in medicine.
